I was in shock when my father told me he was lost when he called the house. Immediately I panicked and began to worry. Right away I started thinking that perhaps he has alzheimers or something even worse. This could not be happening, he was a taxi driver. And I started to ask hime a bunch of questions quickly and with concern. What's near you, can you see any restaurants, is there anyone around that can help you, are there street signs, did you cut off the car? Arrgghh! I felt a lot better when he told me that all the new streets that had recently been put in on that side of town had made him lose track of where his turn was. He made me admit that I thought he was losing his mind to old age. I was relieved to find out he was still in his right mind.
When i got time, I searched different places in search of a GPS for my dad. Gets out of the car and looks up our phone numbers in his hand written address book to use his 'programmed by me' cell phone,it had to be easy because let's face it, he pulls over. He would still have his old humongous phone, if I hadn't shown him different.
Finally, after and long and arduous search, I discovered the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. I love that it's portable. He can take with him in his car, or he can take it with him in his truck. Too small like the Magellan Roadmate,or it's also not big and bulky like the Cobra GPSM 2500. He wears bifocals.
Navigon 2100T portable GPS also has excellent 3D graphics! I wasn't able to find this on any of the models I looked at. It gives a very realistic look to the roads that will make my dad's navigation attempts a lot easier.
"Test to speech" technology is included, as well. Wow what a great little feature. I've heard GPS systems in the past that tell you turn left 15 miles down the road. This nifty device tells you exactly which way to turn and on which street. My dad knows streets. Estimating about fifteen miles is a bit much. He wont touch the button to measure the distance. You're five minutes into it before you realize it was the next left,by the time you've turned down the wrong road. This is not the case with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system.
If you want to get traffice control a nice feature to upgrade to is the replaceable SD card. If you get caught up in traffic, you can find another route to your destination/
And it was quite affordable, too. Eventually, I gave in and went to amazon and bought 2 for a little more than $300. Of course, I wanted one also. In less than a month, my dad had out done me and was showing me how to use my Navigon 2100T portable GPS.
